Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena officially named Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sadbhavana Park situated along Mahatma Gandhi Marg. The park, located parallel to Daryaganj in the historic Walled City, was inaugurated on Thursday. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also attended the event, which coincided with the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister.
The 11-acre DDA park is the second among three parks being revamped along the ramparts of the Walled City. It aims to provide much-needed green recreational space in Delhi, particularly benefiting the Daryaganj-Old Delhi areas. A statue or bust of the late Prime Minister will be placed at the park, and a clock tower is currently being constructed to enhance its visual appeal.
The park features formal lawns, white marble pathways, shaded eating plazas, baradaris, sculptured fountains, and public amenities like toilets. It also offers open recreational zones and a striking sculpture portraying five white horses led by a sarathi, symbolizing leadership and progress. Additionally, the park includes four Yakshini sculptures by renowned sculptor Sudarshan Sahoo, enriching its cultural essence.
Chief Secretary of Delhi, Shri. Rajeev Verma, and other senior DDA officers were present at the inauguration. The park’s design, with its majestic features, aims to be a unique development in the National Capital, providing essential green space for the residents of Delhi, especially those in Daryaganj and Old Delhi areas.
