The Department of Fisheries has allocated Rs 2,208.74 crore to states over the past three financial years for the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). This initiative aims at the comprehensive growth of the fisheries and aquaculture sector in India. Fish production in the country has risen by 39.61% from 141.64 lakh tonnes in 2019-20 to 197.75 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, while fisheries exports have increased by 58.34% from Rs 46,666 crore to Rs 73,890 crore during the same period, showcasing the success of the blue revolution.

The total allocation during this period by the Centre stands at Rs 3,159.83 crore. The distribution of Central funds to states under PMMSY is done annually based on various factors like budgetary allocation, state performance, and project progress. The minister clarified that there is no bias in fund allocation among states and Union Territories under this scheme.

Under the PMMSY, the Department of Fisheries has implemented projects to enhance fish production, productivity, and exports. A centralised digital portal called the PMMSY Management Information System has been developed to monitor the progress of fisheries projects. This system compiles district and state-level data for effective monitoring and evaluation.

The PMMSY Management Information System facilitates the issuance of tailored advisories and ensures regular interactions with states and Union Territories. Field visits are conducted to oversee project advancements and enhance fund utilization efficiency, as per the minister’s statement.
