Calling the battle against narcotics in Gujarat a long-term endeavor, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi highlighted that tackling drugs is not just a short-term effort but a continuous war to safeguard the youth and families from drug-related issues. Speaking at the conclusion of a state-level Crime Conference in Gandhinagar, Sanghavi praised the Gujarat Police for their persistent actions against drug networks. He emphasized the state’s unwavering commitment to anti-drug operations and commended police personnel at all levels for their dedication and resolute efforts.

The Deputy Chief Minister acknowledged the research-based presentations by district Superintendents of Police and Police Commissioners at the conference, emphasizing the collaborative institutional initiatives and teamwork reflected in these sessions. He mentioned that the discussions on innovative technology use and fresh policing strategies would offer a new perspective to the police force, with actionable recommendations from the conference set to be implemented soon. Sanghavi stressed the importance of citizen-centric policing, highlighting the Gujarat Police’s role as a crucial support system for marginalized groups in remote areas, including the poor, women, and senior citizens.

Sanghavi urged officers to prioritize listening to public grievances and ensuring easy accessibility to foster better community engagement, which he noted leads to more effective problem-solving and accurate on-the-ground information crucial for maintaining law and order. He also underscored the significance of valuing experience and skills over rank in leadership roles, encouraging open communication among personnel to build trust and teamwork within the force. Praising the effective actions against drugs by the Ahmedabad and Surat Police Commissioners, Sanghavi referenced a recent seizure of hybrid ganja in Surat and highlighted a notable increase in drug-related cases compared to the previous year, indicating heightened enforcement efforts.

State Director General of Police Vikas Sahay, in his remarks, expressed confidence that the crime conference led by the Deputy Chief Minister would bring about a positive transformation in the Gujarat Police. He commended the sharing of best practices by police commissioners and district heads, covering various aspects such as law enforcement, crime prevention, technology utilization, welfare programs, and administrative strategies. Sahay encouraged officers to adopt these successful practices in their respective districts and applauded all participants for their valuable contributions.
