Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor’s sister, Rhea Kapoor, had her diamond-studded earrings worth Rs. 1.35 crore stolen from her makeup artist’s handbag during a fashion event in New York. The jewellery, rented from Mumbai-based jewellers, went missing when the team reached New York, leading to a police case being filed at Mumbai’s Sahar Police Station.
The theft, discovered at the high-profile fashion event, prompted an investigation under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Renowned makeup artist Savleen Singh, who has worked with Rhea Kapoor for seven years, was in possession of the stolen earrings for the “Met Gala” event in New York.
The missing jewellery, valued at Rs. 1.35 crore, included expensive earrings from Mehta Jewellers and Goenka Jewellers. The incident unfolded when the makeup artist found the jewellery boxes empty in her hotel room, meant to be handed over to a team member. Upon returning to Mumbai, a complaint was lodged, leading to the registration of an FIR for theft.
Police are now investigating the timeline of events, from Mumbai to New York, to determine where the theft of the earrings worth Rs. 1.35 crore took place.
