Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Central Kashmir Range (CKR), Rajiv Pande, recently inspected security measures for the upcoming SANJY-2026 at the Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir. The review, aimed at ensuring a safe pilgrimage, included assessments of security readiness, deployment strategies, communication systems, traffic management, and coordination mechanisms. SSP Ganderbal and other senior police and CAPF officers participated in the meeting.
SANJY-2026, scheduled from July 3 to August 28, will coincide with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. Pilgrims visiting the Amarnath cave shrine via the traditional Pahalgam or Baltal routes will witness the ice stalagmite structure believed to symbolize Lord Shiva’s powers. The DIG stressed the importance of maintaining high alertness levels, effective coordination, and rapid response mechanisms to address potential challenges during the pilgrimage.
The security architecture, advance preparations, and measures on the Baltal axis were discussed during the review. Emphasis was placed on enhancing area domination, surveillance, route security, and facilitation for the yatris. The pilgrimage to the cave shrine, located at 3,880 meters in the Kashmir Himalayas, attracts devotees who embark on journeys lasting either four days via Pahalgam or a single day via Baltal for ‘Darshan’ inside the shrine.
