DigiHaat, a government-backed platform, has introduced metro ticketing services in major metropolitan areas like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. This move marks a significant step towards its goal of becoming a comprehensive digital commerce platform.
With this recent development, DigiHaat stands out as one of the few applications in India that allows users to book metro tickets across multiple cities, in addition to offering commerce and mobility services. The platform has garnered over 2 million downloads and established a community of more than 30,000 users, indicating early success with its transparent and low-commission model.
According to a statement by DigiHaat, the inclusion of metro ticketing enhances its mobility offerings, empowering users to plan and execute their daily commute seamlessly within the same ecosystem. Rahul Vij, the Chief Operating Officer of DigiHaat, emphasized the platform’s commitment to fairness, interoperability, and practical utility in everyday life.
DigiHaat’s expansion aligns with the government’s broader vision, as outlined by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), to create an open digital infrastructure that eliminates intermediaries and enhances accessibility for consumers and businesses. The platform was introduced in March as part of ONDC’s initiative to integrate India’s artisans, farmers, and small producers into the digital commerce landscape, aiming to formalize the country’s extensive informal economy.
