The e-commerce platform DigiHaat has introduced ‘Swadeshi’, a marketplace dedicated to promoting authentic ‘Made-in-Bharat’ products and bolstering local production ecosystems. This initiative, launched by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), aligns with the goal of fostering self-reliant commerce in India. ‘Swadeshi’ operates as a marketplace within the DigiHaat app, facilitating direct purchases from artisans, farmer groups, self-help groups (SHGs), NGOs, and Indian brands.
The platform will showcase a range of Bharat-made products, including food grains, seed products, apparel, handicrafts, home décor, bags, and other essentials. DigiHaat reports that more than 2,000 artisans and over 1,100 farmer groups from various regions are already part of the platform. Rahul Vij emphasized that the aim of this initiative is to connect Indian producers with consumers, thereby fortifying the nation’s economic landscape.
Every purchase on the platform is intended to support local enterprises, diminish reliance on global supply chains, and promote the vision of a self-reliant India. ‘Swadeshi’ by DigiHaat aspires to become a national platform rooted in the ethos of “Bharat Se, Bharat Tak”. In a previous announcement, DigiHaat introduced metro ticketing services in metropolitan areas like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, marking progress towards establishing a comprehensive digital commerce platform.
With over 2 million downloads and a user community exceeding 30,000 across its channels, DigiHaat offers various services such as food delivery, e-commerce, and ride-hailing through partnerships with Bharat Taxi and Namma Yatri. Operating as a wholly-owned subsidiary within the ONDC ecosystem, DigiHaat functions under Nirmit Bharat, a Section 8 not-for-profit entity.
