Diplomats from various countries gathered at the “Sashakt Nari, Viksit Bharat” forum in Delhi to discuss breaking barriers and women’s empowerment. The event, hosted by the Chintan Research Foundation, focused on the role of women leaders in shaping a developed India by 2047. Over 30 women currently hold ambassadorial or high commissioner positions in India, symbolizing gender progress globally.
Ambassadors shared personal stories of overcoming challenges in male-dominated fields. Lithuania’s Ambassador to India, Diana Mickeviciene, highlighted the shift towards more women diplomats. Sri Lankan High Commissioner Mahishini Colonne emphasized the need for more women in mission posts.
Mary M. Mutuku from the Kenyan Mission to India discussed cultural norms where men dominate leadership roles. Estonia’s Ambassador Marje Luup noted positive shifts in perception regarding gender in diplomatic conversations. The forum highlighted the importance of empowering women diplomats for global progress and India’s development vision.
