Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan attributed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2026 opener to their struggles in the powerplay and ineffective bowling. Pathan highlighted that SRH’s inability to capitalize on the powerplay due to early wickets hindered their chance to set a formidable total.
Reflecting on the match, Pathan mentioned that losing early wickets forced SRH’s middle order to consolidate rather than accelerate, resulting in a below-par total of 200 runs despite eventually reaching the mark. He emphasized that SRH’s bowling resources were lacking, especially during crucial game phases, contributing to their defeat.
Pathan underscored the importance for SRH to improve their performance in managing the powerplay, both with the bat and ball, to enhance their prospects in the tournament. He noted the challenges faced by SRH’s captain, Ishan Kishan, in leading the team for the first time in the IPL.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is set to play against Lucknow Super Giants at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad, on April 5.
