Director Sudipto Sen has addressed the controversy surrounding his decision not to direct “The Kerala Story 2.” At the trailer launch of his new project, “Charak: Fair of Faith,” Sen explained that his comment about not making films based on WhatsApp forwards was misinterpreted. He clarified that he meant the topic required extensive research, which he had not conducted.
Sen emphasized that he believes the creators of “The Kerala Story 2” have undertaken thorough research and produced a commendable film. Disputing claims attributed to him, Sen stated that he never explicitly rejected the project for that reason. He highlighted the necessity of in-depth research for such subjects, which he had not undertaken, leading to his decision to decline directing the film.
In a previous interview, Sen had mentioned his lack of familiarity with the subject matter of “The Kerala Story 2.” While he affirmed his support for addressing issues like Islamic radicalism and the ISIS model, he clarified that his expertise lies in specific areas and that the film’s focus on different states was beyond his scope of knowledge.
