New Delhi, Aug 2 (IANS) Delhi Medical Association (DMA) president Neelam Lekhi on Sunday led city doctors in planting saplings as part of the city government’s Mega Plantation Drive, an official said on Sunday.

The plantation drive, supported by DMA’s president-elect S. K. Poddar, was organised by the Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister for Environment, Forest and Wildlife Manjinder Singh Sirsa, said an official statement.

Raminder Popli, Honorary Finance Secretary of the DMA, and other doctors also planted saplings under the inspiring ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“As the largest representative body of allopathic doctors in Delhi, DMA remains deeply committed to environmental conservation and to promoting a greener, cleaner, and healthier Delhi,” said a DMA statement.

“As responsible citizens, we firmly believe that protecting the environment is essential for safeguarding public health and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come,” said the DMA.

Earlier, Sirsa encouraged over 430 students and teachers from five schools to take part in a plantation drive at Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary, reaffirming the Delhi government’s commitment to environmental conservation.

Sirsa said young people play a pivotal role in shaping Delhi’s green future.

“They are ambassadors of environmental conservation and inspire their families and communities to actively contribute towards making Delhi a clean, green and world-class metropolis,” he said.

Through sustained public participation, he said, the Delhi Government is committed to building a healthier, greener and more environmentally resilient Capital for generations to come.

The plantation drive forms part of the Delhi government’s year-long campaign to plant 70 lakh trees and saplings across the Capital.

He said the initiative is inspired by PM Modi’s nationwide campaign, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” which combines environmental responsibility with a heartfelt tribute to mothers.
