The Opposition party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has strongly criticized the Tamil Nadu government for the arrest of former state minister and DMK leader Anitha R. Radhakrishnan. Radhakrishnan was arrested following the denial of anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court in a case where he allegedly made defamatory comments against Chief Minister Joseph C. Vijay.
The incident dates back to a public meeting in Authoor, Thoothukudi district, where Radhakrishnan reportedly ridiculed Vijay’s move from cinema to politics and his behavior in the Assembly. Former Chief Minister and DMK president M. K. Stalin condemned the arrest, accusing the government of using the police to suppress the Opposition.
Stalin questioned the timing of the arrest, highlighting that Radhakrishnan was on official duty in his constituency when he was apprehended. He criticized the government for what he perceived as selective law enforcement, pointing out delays in addressing serious crimes while swiftly acting against political opponents.
DMK leader Kanimozhi and youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin also voiced their disapproval of the arrest, labeling it as political intimidation and accusing the government of prioritizing vendettas over governance.
