The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) expressed worries about potential law-and-order problems during the vote counting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections set for Monday. The party urged the Election Commission and police to ensure strong security measures statewide. DMK’s Organisation Secretary R.S. Bharathi highlighted concerns of disruptions at counting centers and sensitive locations, emphasizing the need for tight security.
In a formal submission to the Chief Electoral Officer and the Director General of Police, Bharathi cited a risk of significant law-and-order challenges that could impact the fairness of the electoral process. He called for increased security presence and coordinated preemptive actions across Tamil Nadu to avert any disturbances. Bharathi stressed the importance of swift responses to complaints on counting day to maintain order and prevent any escalation.
Speaking at the party headquarters, Bharathi mentioned the party’s reliance on social media information indicating potential disruptions during the counting process. He called for heightened vigilance and continuous monitoring by enforcement agencies to ensure control over the situation. Bharathi also criticized the Election Commission, alleging bias towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while affirming the DMK’s readiness to handle any disruptions without compromising the integrity of the counting process.
