The DMK is set to unveil its candidate list on Friday, a significant move in readiness for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 23. This announcement follows Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s finalization of seat allocations within the DMK-led alliance. As political activities escalate across Tamil Nadu, parties like DMK, AIADMK, NDA, and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) are intensifying their campaigns, focusing on alliance talks and voter engagement.
With the nomination process starting on March 30 and vote counting on May 4, preparations are in full swing. Most seat-sharing discussions within the DMK-led alliance have been concluded. The DMK is expected to contest in 164 constituencies, while its allies will field candidates in the remaining seats. The Congress is likely to contest 28 seats, followed by DMDK with 10 seats, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) with eight seats, and both CPI and CPI(M) with five seats each.
The MDMK has been allocated four seats, with other alliance partners like Indian Union Muslim League, Humanist People’s Party, Kongunadu People’s National Party, and others receiving seat allocations. Chief Minister Stalin is in the final stages of consultations and is expected to announce both the constituency allocation for allies and the DMK’s candidate list soon.
In addition to the candidate list, the DMK is gearing up to release its election manifesto, drafted by a committee led by MP Kanimozhi. This manifesto will highlight the party’s key promises and policy priorities for the upcoming polls. Following these announcements, CM Stalin will kick off the DMK’s statewide campaign from Thiruvarur on April 2, addressing public meetings across the state to garner support for DMK candidates and its alliance partners.
