With the DMK opting out of the upcoming INDIA bloc meeting on June 8, the BJP criticized the Opposition, claiming that the alliance is already dissolved, and its partners have lost trust in the Congress. The DMK’s move follows internal discontent within the party over what it perceives as Congress’ betrayal post the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The DMK, invited to the INDIA bloc meeting, chose to abstain to respect its members’ sentiments, who are still aggrieved by the Congress’ actions after the Tamil Nadu polls. BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain expressed that the INDIA bloc has disintegrated, citing various parties contesting separately and lack of unity.
BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra remarked that the DMK’s realization about Rahul Gandhi and the Congress came belatedly, accusing the Congress of double standards leading to its diminishing relevance nationwide. He supported the DMK’s decision, predicting the demise of the INDIA bloc due to internal discord.
BJP leader Prakash Reddy echoed similar sentiments, casting doubt on the INDIA bloc’s continuity. He blamed Rahul Gandhi’s ineffective strategies for the Opposition’s predicament. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena-UBT leader Sanjay Raut maintained that the INDIA bloc remains intact, suggesting DMK should have been patient given the circumstances in Tamil Nadu.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari highlighted DMK’s opposition to the BJP-led government’s delimitation proposals, emphasizing that the DMK’s stance against the Congress is clear. MDMK Principal Secretary Durai Vaiko affirmed his party’s allegiance to the INDIA bloc, distancing from DMK’s decision due to differences with the Congress.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Farooq Abdullah confirmed the party’s participation in the INDIA bloc meeting scheduled for June 8.
