Delhi Police have apprehended the driver of a Mercedes car following a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 29-year-old scooty rider near Jahangirpuri Bus Stand on the Outer Ring Road in northwest Delhi. The accident occurred on July 5 near the Foot Over Bridge at the Jahangirpuri Bus Stand on the GTK Bypass stretch towards ISBT. The victim, identified as Deepak from Mangolpuri, was declared dead upon arrival at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) Hospital.
The investigation gained traction after a PCR caller reported that a Mercedes car with registration number HR-51BT-6304 had collided with the scooty before fleeing the scene. Subsequently, it was discovered that Ansh Pratap Singh was driving the vehicle during the incident. Delhi Police initiated legal action by registering FIR No. 436/2026 at Jahangir Puri Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to negligent driving and causing death by negligence.
The accused driver, Ansh Pratap Singh, has been identified and taken into custody. The authorities are actively pursuing further leads in the ongoing investigation, which includes scrutinizing the circumstances surrounding the accident and gathering evidence such as CCTV footage and witness testimonies to reconstruct the events leading to the tragedy. The luxury vehicle was located with the help of eyewitness information provided through the PCR helpline, leading to the arrest of the driver.
As the inquiry progresses, Delhi Police are yet to confirm whether the accused was intoxicated at the time of the incident or if additional charges will be pressed. The investigation remains open, with legal procedures set to follow as the case unfolds.
