Alim Molla, the driver of the truck involved in the road accident that led to the death of Satyajit Ghosh, the son of key witness Bhola Ghosh in a criminal case against suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan, has been apprehended by the West Bengal Police. The arrest took place early morning from a undisclosed location in the district. Further details, including the specific location of the arrest, have not been disclosed by the authorities.
Molla is scheduled to appear in a district court in North 24 Parganas later in the day, where the public prosecutor will request his police custody. This marks the fifth arrest in the case and the second among the ten individuals identified as suspects by witness Bhola Ghosh at Nazat Police Station earlier this month. Notably, the other three arrested individuals were not among those accused in Bhola Ghosh’s complaint.
The tragic incident occurred on December 10 when a truck collided with the vehicle carrying Satyajit Ghosh and his father to the district court for the latter’s testimony against Shahjahan. While Bhola Ghosh survived the crash, the driver of their vehicle, Shahnur Molla, succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.
Bhola Ghosh has consistently asserted that the attack was directed at him and not his son, emphasizing his role as a key witness against Shahjahan. He also identified Alim Molla as the driver of the 16-wheel truck that struck their vehicle.
Initially, reports suggested a head-on collision between the vehicles. However, Bhola Ghosh later clarified that the truck had rear-ended their vehicle multiple times, eventually pushing it into a roadside water body at the Basanti Highways. Eyewitnesses have since supported Ghosh’s version of events.
