A Special NDPS court in Madhya Pradesh has handed a five-year rigorous imprisonment sentence and a Rs 50,000 fine to an inter-state drug trafficker. Vivek Kumar Singh, from Pune, was found guilty under Sections 8(C) and 20 of the NDPS Act, 1985, by the court in Dewas.
The case stems from March 31, 2024, when NCB officers intercepted a bus at Dewas Toll Plaza, Bypass Road, traveling from Bhopal to Pune. Singh, son of Jamuna Prasad, was arrested with 675 grams of charas, leading to his conviction.
The investigation revealed that the seized charas originated from Kullu in Himachal Pradesh and was destined for Pune. A complaint was filed, and on Thursday, the accused was convicted and sentenced under the NDPS Act.
In another case, the NCB’s Bhopal Zonal Unit secured a 15-year jail term and a Rs 1.50 lakh fine each for two individuals involved in inter-state drug trafficking. Zakir and Liyakat Ali, residents of Bhopal, were arrested with 109.150 kg ganja sourced from Odisha’s Sonepur and intended for Bhopal.
