The East Coast Railway has issued a warning urging people to avoid risky behavior like climbing railway structures for selfies. This caution comes after a youth was seriously injured at Mancheswar Railway Station in Bhubaneswar while taking a selfie and coming into contact with high-voltage electric wires. The incident involved the youth climbing onto a stationary loaded wagon and getting injured by the Overhead Electric system.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel promptly assisted the injured youth and took him to the Railway Hospital for medical care. The injured person, reportedly a student from Rajasthan studying in a local engineering college, was later transferred to a government hospital for further treatment. The Railways emphasized the dangers of such actions and urged the public, especially youths, to refrain from engaging in risky activities for social media content creation.
The Overhead Electric (OHE) system used in train operations poses serious risks due to its high-voltage electricity. Merely being in close proximity to the OHE wire can lead to severe accidents. The Railways conduct awareness campaigns to educate people about the dangers of trespassing on railway premises and the legal consequences of such actions. It is crucial for public cooperation to prevent unfortunate incidents in sensitive railway operational zones.
