The Eastern Command Investiture Ceremony 2026 took place at Umroi Military Station in Shillong, honoring Indian Army personnel for their courage, leadership, and distinguished service. Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, presided over the ceremony, where 37 gallantry and distinguished service awards were presented to officers and soldiers for their exceptional valor and devotion to duty in challenging operational environments. Among the awards were Sena Medals (Gallantry), Sena Medals (Distinguished), Yudh Seva Medals, Vishisht Seva Medals, and Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak.
The awards recognized acts of bravery, outstanding leadership, and dedication to the nation’s service. Additionally, 49 units and the Army Public School in Kolkata received the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command Unit Appreciation for their professionalism, operational excellence, and notable achievements. The ceremony, attended by senior officers of the Indian Defence Forces and the families of the awardees, also included Veer Naris, highlighting the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families for the nation.
Lieutenant General Tiwari commended the awardees for their commitment to duty and urged all ranks to uphold the Indian Army’s traditions, values, and ethos while being prepared to face future challenges with professionalism. A cultural program titled “Shaurya Sandhya” was held as a prelude to the investiture ceremony, showcasing India’s cultural heritage and paying tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and unity embodied by the Indian Armed Forces. The event underscored the Eastern Command’s dedication to honoring valor and service in defense of the nation.
