Prof. Gourav Vallabh, a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), expressed disapproval towards opposition leaders for creating confusion regarding the Prime Minister’s call for fuel conservation. He highlighted ongoing global economic disruptions and geopolitical tensions, emphasizing the need to understand the context behind the conservation measures. Vallabh pointed out three major geopolitical conflicts worldwide, affecting global supply chains and economies.
Shifting consumption patterns, according to Vallabh, could bolster the domestic economy. He encouraged smart substitution of forex-sensitive consumption with domestic production to enhance economic resilience. Vallabh stressed the importance of avoiding panic and misinformation, urging citizens not to be misled by certain opposition leaders who are spreading confusion.
Vallabh praised India’s resilience in global trade, citing instances where Indian-flagged ships continued operations amidst global disruptions. He commended the Prime Minister for setting an example by downsizing his convoy and promoting import-sensitive consumption practices. Vallabh called for collective action, suggesting that citizens and political leaders follow similar practices to support the economy.
Regarding the Prime Minister’s directives on work-from-home and public transport use, Vallabh proposed a collective effort to mitigate economic challenges posed by geopolitical conflicts. He viewed these measures as crucial for safeguarding the Indian economy and emphasized the need for national unity in addressing these issues. Vallabh called upon political leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Asaduddin Owaisi, and Akhilesh Yadav to lead by example in adopting fuel-saving and conservation practices.
