The Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at a flat near Kharar in Punjab’s Mohali district, where two bags allegedly filled with cash were thrown from a ninth-floor during the operation. The flat belonged to Nitin Gohal, an IT professional at Western Towers, who is said to have close ties with an aide of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Morning walkers discovered currency notes scattered in the complex and alerted the authorities. ED officials seized the bags and continued the search at 12 locations in Mohali and Chandigarh, including properties of builders, housing projects, and Gohal. The raids also targeted Suntec City builder, ABS Townships Private Limited, Altus Builders, and Dhir Constructions.
Searches were extended to Chandigarh’s Sector-16 and Patiala, with raids at Bir Devinder Singh’s premises in Mohali, linked to an Aam Aadmi Party functionary. During the operation, a bag of cash was thrown from the ninth floor, picked up by a driver, but recovered by the ED team, amounting to nearly Rs 2.1 million. The Punjab government spokesperson confirmed the incident but denied any connection of the accused with the Chief Minister’s office.
