Egypt and Saudi Arabia highlighted the importance of upholding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in line with international law. This emphasis came as Iran and the United States engaged in a fresh exchange of attacks. The two countries stressed the necessity of ensuring the safety and security of global shipping to prevent any negative impact on the world economy and energy security.
During a phone call between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the officials discussed the recent regional tensions. They condemned Iran’s attacks on Gulf Arab states and Jordan, urging an immediate cessation of all escalatory actions. Additionally, they expressed concerns about any disruption to maritime traffic in the region.
Explosions were reported in the vicinity of the port city of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island in Iran’s Hormozgan province. The sounds of explosions were heard away from populated areas, primarily concentrated on the western coast of Bandar Abbas. These incidents were possibly linked to the ongoing clashes in the Strait of Hormuz and nearby waters.
Authorities in Hormozgan province confirmed no casualties or damage to residential and commercial structures following the reported US attacks on Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island. In a separate development, the Bahrain Defence Force intercepted several Iranian aerial attacks. Accusing Iran of a “systematic hostile approach,” the Bahrain Defence Force denounced the missile and drone assaults against the kingdom.
