Eight individuals lost their lives and 14 others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across Gujranwala, Narowal, Pakpattan, and Lahore cities in Punjab, Pakistan. In Gujranwala, six people, predominantly children, were among the casualties, with 10 individuals injured due to various rain-related accidents. The incidents, including roof and wall collapses, drowning, and electrocution, were attributed to the adverse weather conditions, as reported by Pakistan’s daily Dawn.
Two minor children tragically perished, and their mother was injured when their house’s roof collapsed during rainfall in Pakpattan. Additionally, in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Ravi area, four workers were hurt following a factory roof collapse. The heavy downpour led to waterlogging in Gujrat and Gujranwala, disrupting daily life and commercial activities. Gujranwala, particularly affected by the heavy rains, faced challenges due to ongoing construction work on the metro bus route between Eminabad and Gakhar Mandi.
Earlier, torrential rains and flash floods caused havoc in Khyber and other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, claiming nine lives. The adverse weather conditions damaged various infrastructure, including roads, bridges, houses, and crops, disrupting normal life and communication networks. Rescue efforts were underway, with reports of individuals being swept away by floodwaters in different areas.
