Three of the eight workers who lost their lives in the tragic incident at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in Andhra Pradesh have been recognized, with plans for DNA tests to identify the remaining victims. The bodies of Bhanu Kumar, Ramana, and Appala Raju have been identified at King George Hospital (KGH), and arrangements are being made to transport their remains to their hometowns.
All eight deceased individuals were taken to the KGH mortuary, where most bodies were severely burnt and unidentifiable. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Vani mentioned that DNA tests will be conducted to confirm the identities of the deceased. DNA samples will be collected and sent to a laboratory in Vijayawada for analysis.
The tragic accident occurred when a ladle carrying molten steel exploded at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, resulting in the death of eight individuals and injuries to six others. The explosion caused a significant leakage of molten steel, which was at an extremely high temperature of about 1,500 degrees Celsius.
State ministers Nara Lokesh and Anitha visited KGH to offer condolences and support to the victims’ families. They were joined by Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries & Steel, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, MP Bharat, and others. State Labour Minister Vasamshetti Subhash also visited the injured at KIMS Icon Hospital.
Union Minister for Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy visited the accident site and met with the affected families and injured individuals. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced compensation of Rs 25 lakh for each deceased worker’s family and Rs 10 lakh for each injured person. Kumaraswamy assured full support to the affected families and instructed authorities to provide the best medical care to the injured.
