Ekta Nagar, a tourism hub near the iconic Statue of Unity in Narmada district, has become renowned for its focus on green tourism and eco-friendly practices. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to develop the area as an “electric vehicle only zone” has brought attention to its economic potential and tourism appeal. This commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development, made five years ago, is now showing significant results.
The Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Regulatory Authority has been instrumental in realizing the Prime Minister’s vision. Ekta Nagar is now recognized globally as a model for ‘Green Tourism and Sustainable Development.’ In the past five years, the area has seen the operation of around 459 electric vehicles and the planting of approximately 60 lakh trees, including various plant species across eco-tourism projects.
Amit Arora, CEO of the Statue of Unity, highlighted the efforts to transform Ekta Nagar into a pollution-free green city. The region has been designated as an EV zone, with a focus on enhancing its aesthetics and environmental appeal. Noteworthy additions include a solar power plant, a Miyawaki forest, a Valley of Flowers, and a Bonsai garden, all aimed at attracting more tourists. Ekta Nagar’s evolution into a premier tourism destination underscores a meticulously planned strategy for sustainable growth.
