A retired railway employee, Hemant Barik, 64, and his wife Shakuntala Barik, 62, a retired nurse, were discovered dead in their Sudama Nagar home in Bhopal. The bodies, in an advanced state of decomposition, were found after neighbors reported a foul smell. Police are investigating the deaths as a possible murder case after recovering three empty cartridge cases at the scene.
The investigation has taken a new turn with the recovery of the cartridge cases. Due to the bodies’ condition and the delay in discovery, determining the exact cause of death immediately has proven challenging for the authorities. The police are exploring various angles, including the murder possibility, as they await post-mortem and forensic reports for more clarity.
Additional Police Commissioner Shailendra Singh Chauhan mentioned that injury marks were visible on the bodies, and the crime scene has been secured for forensic analysis. The couple, who lived alone in the house with students renting a portion of the property, had not been seen for two days before their bodies were found.
Neighbors and tenants alerted the authorities when they noticed the absence of the couple and a strong odor emanating from the residence. Statements from neighbors suggest that the couple was last seen on June 24, and there are reports of domestic disputes, although no definitive conclusions have been drawn yet. The police are diligently gathering evidence and interviewing individuals associated with the deceased couple to piece together the events leading to their deaths.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and investigators are eagerly awaiting forensic results to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to unravel the mystery behind the tragic incident.
