An elderly man tragically lost his life after falling into a lift shaft at Nirmal Society in Gujarat’s Valsad district. The incident occurred due to a technical malfunction that caused the lift door to open on a floor where the cabin was not present. The man, who was on the third floor near the lift, fell directly into the shaft.

District SP Yuvrajsinh Jadeja confirmed the recovery of the man’s body, which was sent for post-mortem as part of the investigation. Initial reports suggest that the victim, a gardener at the society, approached the lift after finishing work. Despite the lift being elsewhere, a safety door opened, leading to the tragic fall.

Residents noticed a foul smell spreading through the building a day later, prompting a search that uncovered the body in the lift shaft. Police, alerted to the situation, reviewed CCTV footage confirming the incident. A case of accidental death has been registered, and authorities are scrutinizing maintenance records and CCTV footage to establish accountability.

The incident has sparked concerns among residents about safety protocols and the effectiveness of lift interlock systems. This incident follows a recent lift-related mishap in the same district, underscoring the importance of stringent safety measures in residential buildings.
