The Election Commission of India has released the notification for the bye-election in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia Assembly constituency. Nominations will be accepted from July 6 to July 13, with scrutiny on July 14 and the option to withdraw nominations until July 16.
Voting is scheduled for July 30, and the election results will be announced on August 3. The bypoll was necessitated by the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti due to a criminal conviction, leading to the vacant seat.
The Datia bye-election holds significance as it was previously represented by former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra, a senior BJP leader. Mishra faced defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections against Congress candidate Rajendra Bharti, ending his long winning streak.
The Election Commission stated that the nomination process for the Datia Assembly bye-election will start on July 6, followed by polling on July 30 and vote counting on August 3. Both the BJP and Congress are expected to announce their candidates soon, intensifying political activities in the constituency.
While the BJP aims to reclaim its stronghold, the Congress strives to retain the seat despite Bharti’s disqualification. The bypoll’s outcome will offer insights into the electoral readiness and organizational strength of both parties in the Gwalior-Chambal region for future political contests in Madhya Pradesh.
