The Election Commission of India instructed the West Bengal administration to finish the first phase of security operations with Central Armed Police Force personnel by March 14. A total of 480 CAPF companies have already reached the state in two groups. The ECI mandated route marches and area domination exercises in all 294 Assembly constituencies by 8 p.m. on March 14.
The ECI completed the allocation of the 480 CAPF companies across districts. Subrata Gupta, a retired IAS officer, serving as the special roll observer, will now be the central observer for the upcoming state Assembly elections. The ECI praised Gupta’s work during the Special Intensive Revision process, leading to his new appointment.
Additionally, the ECI requested information on police station officers-in-charge in districts with post-poll violence after the 2021 elections. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar sought these details from the Acting Director General of West Bengal Police, Peeyush Pandey, including information on their immediate superiors at the time.
