The Election Commission of India has modified the timetable for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra due to heavy rainfall in various regions. The state’s Chief Electoral Officer requested an extension citing disruptions caused by torrential downpours in Konkan, Mumbai, and other areas. House-to-house verification visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be conducted from June 30, 2026, to August 8, 2026.
The revised schedule includes deadlines for voter registration and verification processes. Rationalization and re-arrangement of polling stations are to be completed by August 8, 2026. The Draft Electoral Roll is set for publication on August 17, 2026 (Monday). The period for filing claims and objections will be from August 17, 2026, to September 16, 2026.
The state administration has instructed district election officers to disseminate the updated timeline to local political parties and ensure broad publicity across media platforms. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra, overseen by S. Chockalingam, the Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra, is a comprehensive effort to verify and update voter records, encompassing approximately 98.6 million voters.
