The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to organize a National Conference of State Election Commissioners (SECs) on February 24 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. State Election Commissioners from all States and Union Territories will participate in this conference, marking its first occurrence in over 25 years since the last one in 1999. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will lead the conference, accompanied by Election Commissioners Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi.
The conference aims to enhance collaboration between the ECI and State Election Commissions in overseeing elections, electoral procedures, and logistical arrangements while upholding their distinct constitutional and legal roles. State Election Commissioners, along with their legal and technical experts, will engage in focused discussions on various topics, including electoral laws, technological advancements like the ECINET digital platform, and challenges in election administration.
Participants will delve into key issues such as voter eligibility laws, the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and other contemporary election management challenges. The ECI will also share its expertise in electoral roll preparation and election conduct to bolster State Election Commissions in fulfilling their responsibilities under the Indian Constitution and legal framework.
