The Election Commission of India (ECI) will conduct a national roundtable conference to enhance electoral processes and coordination among its various branches, including the State Election Commissioners (SECs). Discussions at the conference will focus on technology integration, efficient functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and Electoral Rolls management to address unforeseen challenges. This conference, the first in about three decades, gains importance ahead of upcoming Assembly elections and amidst debates on electoral roll revisions.
The Round Table Conference aims to promote collaboration between ECI and SECs regarding electoral procedures and logistics within their legal frameworks. It serves as a platform for sharing ideas and reinforcing cooperative federalism in electoral management. Chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the conference will be attended by Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, along with State Election Commissioners, Chief Electoral Officers, and experts.
Key technological and operational initiatives, such as the ECINET digital platform, will be presented by senior ECI officials to streamline electoral services. Presentations will also emphasize the reliability of EVMs and transparency enhancement in the electoral system. Additionally, a comparative analysis of elector eligibility across states and union territories will be conducted to facilitate discussions on Electoral Roll preparation legal frameworks.
