The Election Commission of India has instructed the installation of temporary bamboo fencing around unenclosed polling stations to prevent unauthorized access. These stations lack proper boundary walls, making them susceptible to unauthorized entry. Additional security personnel will be deployed to ensure the integrity of these polling stations.
An official from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in West Bengal highlighted that some polling stations in remote forested areas are particularly vulnerable due to the lack of proper boundaries. To address this security concern, bamboo fencing will be set up around these stations. The Commission aims to enhance security measures ahead of the upcoming elections.
In a bid to maintain neutrality and security, the Commission has directed booth-level officers to personally deliver voting slips to voters. Strict warnings have been issued to ensure that political party representatives do not handle the distribution of voting slips. This move aims to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and prevent any external influence.
Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Commission has emphasized the importance of impartiality among sector officers, presiding officers, and polling officials. These officials have been instructed not to seek assistance from any political party representatives during the polling process. Additionally, they are advised against accepting any items from political party members to maintain neutrality.
The polling in West Bengal will be conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results scheduled for declaration on May 4. The Commission’s proactive measures, including bamboo fencing and strict guidelines for polling officials, aim to ensure a fair and secure electoral process in the state.
