After the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Madhya Pradesh, the Election Commission of India (ECI) unveiled the Integrated Draft Electoral Roll for the state. The draft revealed the removal of 42.72 lakh voters’ names and the inability to map 8.4 lakh voters. However, voters will have an opportunity to add their names to the electoral roll.
Following the release of the draft, voters can submit claims and objections for the addition, deletion, or correction of entries within the specified period. The ECI emphasized the importance of verifying details to prevent eligible voters from being excluded and ineligible names from being retained in the rolls.
A month-long “Claims and Objections” phase has begun in all 52 districts of Madhya Pradesh, concluding on January 15, 2026. This phase is crucial for voters marked under ‘Notice’ status, as failure to complete identity verification could lead to their names being permanently deleted.
Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari alleged that the presence of 42.72 lakh ineligible voters had influenced the outcome of the state Assembly elections in 2023. Patwari claimed that the BJP had garnered 30 lakh more votes than the Congress in 2023, suggesting that these fake voters were affiliated with the BJP.
More than 65,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducted door-to-door verification of voters starting from November 4, with over 6.65 crore voters registered in Madhya Pradesh in 2023. The state comprises 230 Assembly seats and 29 Lok Sabha constituencies across 55 districts, organized into 10 divisions including Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, Chambal, Narmadapuram, Rewa, Sagar, Shahdol, and Ujjain.
