The Election Commission of India (ECI) in West Bengal will release two separate lists categorizing cases as “unmapped” and “logical discrepancy” during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Following a Supreme Court directive, the ECI will publish the list of “logical discrepancy” cases related to “progeny-mapping” and a separate list for “unmapped” voters. An insider from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office confirmed this decision, stating that the ECI is going beyond the court’s order by releasing both lists.

“Unmapped” voters are individuals who could not establish a connection with the 2002 voters’ list through “self mapping” or “progeny mapping.” In contrast, “logical discrepancy” cases involve irregular family-tree data discovered during “progeny mapping.” The number of “unmapped” voters in West Bengal totals 31,68,426, while there are 94,49,132 cases of “logical discrepancies. The Election Commission announced that both lists will be available for public viewing on January 25, accessible to district magistrates, district election officers (DEOs), and electoral registration officers (EROs).

During the claims and objections sessions in the draft voters’ list, certificates and admit cards from the Madhyamik examination, conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE), will be accepted as valid identity-proof documents. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar instructed the acting director general of West Bengal Police to ensure absolute peace and order in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives for a smooth conduct of the ongoing SIR in the state.
