Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, also the Chairman of the Council of Member States of International IDEA, held discussions with diplomats from Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka regarding the training of election staff. The Election Commission of India highlighted the meeting with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador, Sardor Rustambaev, and Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner, Mahishini Colonne, emphasizing collaboration in election management and staff training.
Both sides aimed to advance the agenda set at the IICDEM 2026 conference, strengthening India’s role as a trusted partner in democratic development. The officials agreed to enhance cooperation in election management and staff training, building on the deep-rooted ties and shared democratic values between India, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan. Gyanesh Kumar stressed the importance of capacity building for election officials during the discussions.
