Nominations for elections to 27 Rajya Sabha seats and State Legislative Councils in 3 states have commenced. The Election Commission of India has set June 18 as the date for contested elections, with voting from 8 AM to 4 PM and vote counting at 5 PM.
The Election Commission has appointed Returning Officers for both biennial and bye-elections. Nominations for these elections started at 11 AM on Monday and will be accepted until June 8 at 3 PM. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on June 9, with the withdrawal deadline set for June 11.
Biennial elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats will be held in various states, while bye-elections for Rajya Sabha seats are scheduled in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha. Additionally, biennial elections for State Legislative Councils will take place in Bihar and Karnataka.
In Bihar, a bye-election for the State Legislative Council will be conducted to fill the seat vacated by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Furthermore, biennial elections in Bihar will be held for nine seats where the current members are completing their terms on June 28.
