An encounter occurred between the Bihar Police Special Task Force (STF) and a notorious criminal in the Alamganj police station area of Patna City. The operation was a joint effort by the Patna Police and the STF. The injured criminal, identified as Rajiv Kumar alias Surya Don, was shot in the leg during the encounter and promptly taken to a city hospital for treatment.
Police received specific information that Rajiv Kumar was heading to the Gaighat area for extortion. Acting on this tip-off, the Patna Police, with STF support, surrounded the Gaighat bridge area. When the police attempted to arrest him, the accused opened fire, leading to a self-defence response from the police, resulting in the criminal being shot in the leg and subsequently apprehended.
Rajiv Kumar has over two dozen criminal cases against him, including serious offenses. One country-made pistol, one live cartridge, and one spent bullet shell were recovered from the scene. An investigation is ongoing to identify his associates and confirm his involvement in other criminal activities.
The encounter caused temporary panic in the vicinity, but police urged residents to stay calm. Security measures have been heightened, and an extensive search operation is underway in nearby areas. The police are working to identify and apprehend other members of Rajiv Kumar’s gang. The operation was part of ‘Operation Langda,’ targeting armed criminals involved in various criminal activities.
