The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated raids and search operations in Kolkata related to money laundering cases involving land syndicates. The former Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police and local land mafia figure, Biswajit Poddar, also known as Sona Pappu, are central to these investigations. Sinha Biswas and Pappu are currently in ED custody following their arrests earlier this month in connection with the same cases.
Raids are being carried out at various locations in Kolkata, including a mansion owned by Sinha Biswas in Kandi, Murshidabad district. The ED officials began their operations by raiding a businessman’s house in the Bhabanipur area of South Kolkata this morning.
Additionally, the ED officials visited a hotel on Royd Street in Central Kolkata for search operations after speaking with the hotel manager. A police officer’s residence in Kasba, South Kolkata, was also subject to a raid as the officer is known to be a close associate of Sinha Biswas.
The ongoing raids aim to gather evidence related to money laundering and land syndicate cases. The businessman, hotel owner, and police officer’s names surfaced during the interrogation of Sinha Biswas and Sona Pappu by investigating officials, prompting these search operations.
At the mansion of Sinha Biswas in Kandi, Murshidabad district, another team of ED officials conducted raids. This ancestral house of Sinha Biswas, located in ward number eight of Kandi Municipality, was reportedly locked since his arrest earlier this month. The officials had to break open the gate to enter and continue the search.
