Enforcement Directorate officials conducted searches at various locations in West Bengal as part of an investigation into an alleged chit fund-related fraud involving cryptocurrency investments and suspected money laundering. One of the searches targeted Dilip Mallick’s residence, a former employee of Eastern Coalfields Limited, in Andal of West Burdwan district. Searches were also carried out at the residence of Sourav Chatterjee in Howrah district and at premises associated with businessman Subhra Kanti Nag, known as Babai Nag, in Nadia district. Central forces were present during the search operations.
Dilip Mallick, residing in Sripalli Subhashnagar Riksadangal area of Andal, along with his son Diganta Mallick, is accused of defrauding large sums of money through cryptocurrency investments. The duo allegedly operated an office in Kolkata’s Fairlie Place to deceive individuals into investing in cryptocurrency, with Diganta reportedly collecting substantial funds through social media promotions.
According to central investigation agency sources, the Mallicks have connections with a Dubai-based businessman, and there are suspicions of money being laundered internationally. Diganta had been previously arrested and later released on bail. Recent scrutiny of his bank account revealed significant financial transactions, leading to the search at his Andal residence.
In another raid, the ED searched the residence of Sourav Chatterjee in Howrah, who is reportedly linked to multiple chit fund companies and share market businesses. Additionally, businessman Subhra Kanti Nag, alias Babai Nag, from Kalinarayanpur in Nadia, is under investigation for allegedly operating a fraudulent chit fund company under the guise of stock market training and investment through his firm ‘Stock Gurukul.’
