The Enforcement Directorate has issued fresh summons to Rathin Ghosh, a former West Bengal food and supplies minister, for further questioning in a cash-for-municipalities job case. Ghosh, a four-time Trinamool Congress legislator, has been asked to appear at the ED’s office in Kolkata by May 25. He has been previously summoned by the ED in connection with the urban civic bodies’ recruitment case but had cited campaign engagements for not appearing.
Ghosh, who appeared for questioning on May 15 after avoiding previous summons, has now been called again for interrogation. Another former Trinamool Congress legislator, Sujit Bose, is already in ED custody in relation to the same case. The ED’s investigation into the multi-crore municipalities’ job case began during raids at a Trinamool Congress-linked promoter’s residence in connection with a money laundering case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation also initiated a parallel probe into the municipalities’ job case following a Calcutta High Court order. As the investigation progressed, names of several politically influential individuals, including state ministers and ruling party leaders, emerged.
