Batting all-rounder Jacob Bethell will partner with Ben Duckett as England reveals its lineup for the opening One-day International against India at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler will mark his 200th ODI appearance in this match. Buttler, a key player for England in white-ball cricket, debuted in ODIs in 2012 and has scored 5,515 runs at an average of 39.11, with 11 centuries and 29 fifties to his name.
The decision to promote Bethell to open alongside Duckett shows England’s quest for a stable opening pair. Bethell will be Duckett’s fifth opening partner, following Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, Zak Crawley, and Rehan Ahmed. England, led by Harry Brook, opts for a spin-heavy bowling attack with Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, and Adil Rashid to challenge India’s strong batting lineup featuring Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul.
Jofra Archer, returning to the ODI squad after a break, will share the fast-bowling duties with Josh Tongue, leaving Gus Atkinson out of the playing eleven. After the Edgbaston match, the ODI series will move to Cardiff on July 16 and Lord’s on July 19.
