Nat Sciver-Brunt played a crucial role as England secured a 40-run victory over South Africa in the Women’s T20 World Cup semifinal at The Oval. England, led by Sciver-Brunt, posted a total of 169/5 after a shaky start, with South Africa managing only 129/8 in their 20 overs. The win sets up a final clash between England and Australia, both unbeaten teams in the tournament, at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday.
Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail gave South Africa a strong start by dismissing key England batters early in the match. Ismail, in particular, reached a milestone of 50 wickets in the tournament. Despite the early setbacks, Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight’s partnership of 133 runs for the third wicket turned the game in England’s favor, with Sciver-Brunt impressing with her aggressive batting.
England’s strong performance continued as Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean led the bowling attack effectively, each claiming two wickets. South Africa’s Tazmin Brits fought valiantly, scoring a fifty, but England’s bowlers proved too strong in the end. The victory also allowed England to avenge previous semifinal defeats to South Africa in major tournaments.
