English actor Paul Blackthorne recently shared his experiences from the set of the iconic film ‘Lagaan’ during the movie’s 25th-anniversary celebrations in Mumbai. Blackthorne, who portrayed Captain Andrew Russell in the film, highlighted the cultural shock faced by the international actors due to the unavailability of alcohol in Bhuj, Gujarat being a dry state. Despite challenges like the extreme heat, the cast would source alcohol from various places for weekend celebrations.
During the shoot, Blackthorne addressed rumors about Aamir Khan missing the bus, stating he couldn’t recall such an incident and believed Khan must have had a valid reason if he was late. Describing their routine, he mentioned early morning bus rides to the set, where they would bundle up due to the cold weather. The journey from their accommodation to the set took about an hour, and they enjoyed a hearty breakfast, including chai, upon arrival.
‘Lagaan’ faced off against ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ at the box office but emerged as a significant success in Indian cinema history, despite the clash, with both films performing well commercially.
