Former England cricketer Eoin Morgan commended young batsman Priyansh Arya for his crucial role in the Punjab Kings team following his impressive performance against Lucknow Super Giants. Punjab Kings maintained their top position on the table after a convincing 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants, with Arya’s unbeaten 93 and Connolly’s 87 setting a new high score for the season. The duo’s aggressive batting approach, with Arya hitting four boundaries and nine sixes and Connolly adding eight fours and seven sixes, disrupted LSG’s bowling rhythm significantly.
Morgan highlighted Punjab Kings’ strength, noting that the team is no longer solely dependent on individual star players like the captain. He emphasized the depth of the team, suggesting that even without key players performing, they could still post high scores. This balanced contribution from the entire team, according to Morgan, reduces pressure on key players like Shreyas Iyer and strengthens the team overall. Morgan’s observations were made during an interview on JioStar.
Regarding Priyansh Arya’s batting style, Morgan praised his confident and strategic mindset, indicating that Arya’s success is part of a larger plan orchestrated by Punjab Kings and coach Ricky Ponting. Arya’s consistent performances are seen as integral to the team’s structure and success. Cooper Connolly, a 22-year-old player in the team, also received accolades from Morgan for his growth and adaptability within the Punjab Kings setup. Despite a slightly shaky start, Connolly’s ability to adjust his game and accelerate the scoring rate was commended by Morgan, who described his ball-striking abilities as exceptional in the tournament.
