A high-level Team Europe delegation from the European Union (EU) is scheduled to visit Guwahati, Assam, on June 8 for a two-day trip aimed at enhancing collaboration opportunities with India’s North-Eastern States. The visit aligns with the priorities outlined in the joint Comprehensive Strategic Agenda agreed upon by the EU and India during their Summit in January. Europe and India are focusing on strengthening cooperation, particularly in states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
The delegation, which includes Ambassadors and senior representatives from EU Member States, will concentrate on exploring value chains in sectors where Europe and the North-Eastern states of India have strong synergies. These sectors include renewable and green energy, sustainable urban infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and electronics manufacturing, tea and agri-food processing, flavors and fragrances, and AYUSH.
During their stay, the European delegation will engage in bilateral discussions with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Additionally, a business delegation led by the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI) will meet with State officials to identify trade and investment prospects.
On June 9, the delegation will participate in a workshop titled ‘Blue Valleys: Building ecosystems and value chains between India and Europe,’ organized by the Assam government. This event aims to facilitate partnerships between European and Indian businesses in sustainable value chains, industries, and innovation.
The visit will also mark the launch of Assam’s first Blue Valley Cluster, a new industrial hub focusing on fragrances, flavors, AYUSH, and food processing. This 4P (public-private-people-partnership) cluster aims to connect Europe, North-East India, and Bhutan, fostering innovation, research, sustainable manufacturing, and business collaborations.
Clean energy, natural ingredients, bamboo-based industries, eco-friendly textiles, biotech, wellness, and smart manufacturing are key sectors under the Blue Valley initiative. The initiative seeks to create scalable business models that benefit local communities and link them to European markets by combining funding, skills development, and sustainability standards.
Quoting Ambassador Herve Delphin, the statement highlighted the vast potential of North-East India and Assam, emphasizing the region’s resources, skilled workforce, and rapid GDP growth. The visit signifies a step towards establishing long-term business-to-business partnerships that drive growth for both the EU and India.
In addition to various meetings and the Blue Valleys event, the delegation will tour Tata Electronics’ new semiconductor plant. This visit aims to underscore the importance of the digital partnership under the EU-India Trade and Technology Council (TTC) and provide European investors with insights into Assam’s business environment, infrastructure, and industry potential.
The EU views the delegation’s program in Assam as a significant milestone in EU-India collaboration, with a shared goal of unlocking the North-East’s economic potential through innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
