Despite Bihar’s strict prohibition law, liquor smugglers persist in using innovative methods to transport illegal consignments into the state. Recently, in Buxar, officials intercepted a significant amount of foreign liquor, valued at around Rs 20.5 lakh, hidden beneath jute sacks in a goods vehicle. Two suspected smugglers were apprehended during the operation.
The seizure took place during a routine inspection at the Veer Kunwar Singh Check Post. The Excise Department’s vigilance and technical capabilities came into play when a suspicious DCM truck was flagged for inspection. Led by Prohibition Inspector-in-Charge Kundan Kumar, officials uncovered the concealed liquor after a detailed examination using specialized scanning equipment.
The smugglers had employed a sophisticated concealment tactic to evade detection, camouflaging the foreign liquor among legitimate cargo. This intricate strategy made visual identification challenging, underscoring the importance of technical screening devices in uncovering such illicit activities. The arrested individuals revealed that the liquor was sourced from Haryana and destined for delivery in Bhagalpur, Bihar.
Excise Superintendent Ashraf Jamal confirmed that legal action has been initiated against the accused under Bihar’s prohibition laws and relevant statutes. Further investigations are underway to dismantle the entire smuggling network, encompassing suppliers, transport facilitators, and recipients.
