Three days after the book release of expelled CPI-M leader V. Kunjikrishnan, tensions escalated within the party in Kannur. The district party secretary K.K. Ragesh and Kunjikrishnan engaged in a verbal dispute, exchanging accusations. Kunjikrishnan dismissed Ragesh’s statements as lacking truth.

Ragesh claimed that Kunjikrishnan’s book launch attracted anti-CPI(M) elements, including members of the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP). He alleged that around 2,500 books were sold within an hour during the event. Kunjikrishnan refuted these claims, questioning the party’s workers in Payyannur about labeling attendees as “anti-party.”

Kunjikrishnan clarified that the event was not an official party function but a public gathering open to all. He emphasized that attendees included CPI-M workers, party members’ relatives, and supporters. Kunjikrishnan expressed disappointment at being branded “anti-CPI-M” and highlighted his efforts to address internal issues within the party.

Ragesh, in a press conference, dismissed allegations of misusing the martyrs’ fund as baseless. He criticized Kunjikrishnan for allegedly harboring personal grudges against CPI-M leader T.I. Madhusoodanan. Ragesh assured transparency in the party’s financial matters, stating that income and expenses would be disclosed in family meetings, not to the media.

The ongoing conflict within the CPI-M in Kannur has attracted attention, raising concerns about internal dissent. While the party leadership remains resolute, social media is active with discussions on the issue.
