Innovation-led research, science-based regulatory frameworks, and global collaboration are key to enhancing India’s seed ecosystem and agricultural productivity, experts stated. Discussions at the ASSOCHAM’s India Seed Trade & Innovation Summit 2026 focused on strategies to boost India’s competitiveness in the global seed value chain through innovation and sustainability. Dr. Himanshu Pathak from ICRISAT highlighted the need for strong partnerships to drive agricultural transformation towards climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods.
An emphasis was placed on sustained investments in research, adoption of biotechnology, and public-private partnerships to strengthen India’s seed ecosystem. The summit also stressed the importance of an enabling policy environment that supports innovation, quality, and farmer welfare to position India as a global seed trade hub. Delegates from 24 countries participated in the two-day summit, along with government officials, researchers, and industry representatives.
Dr. Venkatram Vasantavada of ASSOCHAM noted India’s rise as a prominent seed market, supported by a strong scientific community and research institutions. Sunil Sharma highlighted the need for shared commitment among stakeholders to drive agricultural innovation, combining traditional practices with modern technologies for sustainable food systems. The summit discussions revolved around enhancing international seed trade, boosting India’s export competitiveness, and leveraging biotechnology and digital agriculture for growth.
